Zapata gets revenge on Napoli as Atalanta win 4-2
Atalanta came away with an important 4-2 victory against Napoli in a game where Duvan Zapata managed to score against his former team and Victor Osimhen received was dealt a serious injury blow.
Napoli hav fallen to seventh place in Serie A following their recent defeat to Atalanta, a team that also defeated them in a Coppa Italia two-legged draw two weeks ago.
Former Gli Azzurri player, Duvan Zapata, opened the scoring for Atalanta in the 52nd minute after latching on to a cross fom Luis Muriel.
Napoli found the strength to reply mere minutes later through Piotr Zielinski who beautifully lobbied home a cross from Matteo Politano.
The Partenopei side may have been back in the game but not for long. Once again, Zapata found himself with space in the Napoli penalty box and cleverly crossed the ball to Robin Gossens who put it away.
Any hopes of Napoli coming back into the game were put to rest by Luis Muriel in the 71st minute as he made the best of the opposition defense’s errors to make it 3-1.
Gossens may have scored an own-goal in the 75th minute, but a strike from Cristian Romero kept the goal difference intact as Atalanta came away with an important 4-2 victory.
The defeat will, no doubt affect, the mood in the Naples side, especially following the defeat to Granada. The players and the team’s manager were unable to comment with specific instructions from the team hierarchy demanding that the team keep silent in the following days.
