Faouzi Ghoulam has long been rumored to be among the players Napoli could part with this winter. However, the defender states that he is happy in Naples and anxious to add more game time.
Ghoulam talked about his future as well as that of the club in a recent press conference. The defender, who has been with Napoli since 2014, admits that he wishes to play consistently in order to remain fully fit. The player famously suffered a terrible cruciate ligament rupture back in 2017.
Asked about the chances of leaving the club this winter, the Algerian denied the rumors. The defender says that Napoli remains his priority and that he will need to think twice if he is to accept an offer from a different club.
The defender also talked about Napoli’s recent Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Juventus. He told reporters that the team is concentrating on being mentally prepared for the next Serie A clash against Verona. Ghoulam believes that while Juventus were not necessarily the better team on the day, the quality of their squad made them grab victory.
Finally, the defender had words of encouragement for Lorenzo Insigne. Napoli’s captain missed a penalty against Juventus. Ghoulam says that the Partenopei fans need to encourage Insigne and acknowledge his importance for the club in previous years.
