Victor Osimhen to Miss Italian Supercup Against Juventus
More bad news for Napolu’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as he’s tested positive for a new coronavirus test. The result lends him unusable for his team’s match against Juventus in the the Supercoppa Italiana on Sunday.
It’s been a poor few months for Osimhen. Despite starting off very strong for Napoli since joining the club in 2020, a shoulder injury kept him off the field for the last part of 2020.
Sadly, just as the striker was ending his physical rehabilitation, he was diagnosed with Covid-19. It is believed that the player’s attendance at a birthday party in his native Nigeria may have contributed to this. Osimhen, however, denied any knowledge of the party.
A new Covid-19 test has revealed that the player still carried the virtus. The official statement from Napoli claims that the striker will be tested again this week.
It is expected that he will miss Napoli’s Italian Supercup showdown against Serie A champions Juventus.
Osimhen has also been out of contention for Napoli’s 3-2 victory over Empoli in the Italian Cup. Andrea Petagna, who has replaced the Nigerian as central forward, scored the winning goal.
The club is now hopeful that the prodigious young striker can make a return to full fitness next week when Gli Azzuri takes on Fiorentina.
