Victor Osimhen proves against Spezia just what Napoli have been missing
Napoli earned an important 4-1 victory over Spezia last night. It’s a result that puts Gli Azzuri in line for a Champions League place and confirms the quality of the team’s squad, especially the individual skill of Victor Osimhen.
Where would Napoli be without Osimhen? Perhaps, the question is where would they be with the Nigerian forward available for the entire season? Judging by last night’s display, maybe, battling for the Scudetto.
It’s not a far-fetched theory. The striker scored twice and provided an assist for his team. It’s a standard to which the striker has used fans since returning for injury.
Other players that have performed very well in the past few weeks have included Dries Mertens, Hirving Lozano, Piotr Zielinski. These are all players that, at one point or another, were unavailable to manager Gennaro Gattuso.
The manager’s position has been debated a lot this season. As things stand, his team sits 2nd in the league on the strength of two great months of football. It is only now that Gattuso has had the privilege of a nearly fully fit side. The results speak for themselves and, for once, fans and clubs hierarchy should entrust more faith in the qualities of their long-suffering manager. Could a Napoli team including the likes of Osimhen or Mertens not be one of the best in Serie A?
