Varriale Thinks the Rift Between Gattuso and de Laurentiis Cannot Be Fixed

RAI Sport’s Deputy Director, Enrico Varriale, believes that there’s a rift between Napoli’s manager Gennaro Gattuso and the club owner that cannot be fixed.

The comment comes at a time when many news outlets are reporting that Aurelio de Laurentiis, Napoli’s owner, is considering replacing the manager that helped Napoli win Coppa Italia in 2020.

Varriale, speaking on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, is among those that believes that a conflict exists between the two sides. The journalist says that recent statements made by Gattuso indicate, he thinks, that a serious issue exists between the tactician and the club’s hierarchy.

In spite of this, Varriale hopes that the club will give Gattuso time and analyze his situation at the end of the season. Napoli, at present, is still involved in three competitions, Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Europa League. The famed journalist believes in Gli Azzurri’s chances to capture silverware in at least one of these.

Napoli is currently in fifth place. The team’s form has fluctuated. They’ve lost two of their last five matches, but have occasionally put in great performances. Choosing to focus on the positives, Varriale believes that Gattuso deserves a shot to lead the team until the end of the season before a decision about his future can be made.
