Shocking loss! Napoli Fall to Sixth Place Following Defeat to Verona

Napoli lost their Serie A fixture against one of the season’s greatest surprise packages, Verona. It finished 3-1 for the Gialloblu and manager Gennaro Gattuso must rethink some of his strategies.

In one of the heaviest and most painful defeats of the season, Gli Azzuri lost 3-1 away to Verona. While recent accomplishments and an early goal might have given Gattuso’s men hope, Verona’s brave display, hampered their plans.

Diego Demme’s forward pass found Hirving Lazano in the penalty box in just the first minute of the game. The striker found the net and it looked like Napoli might be able to glide to an easy victory.

These appearances proved proved to be deceiving, however. The Partenopei were wasteful with their chances, and Verona’s players were happy to catch them napping. In the 34th miute Federico Dimarco equalized following a quick counter-attack and a poor marking choice.

Then, in the second half, one of Serie A’s finest players, Mattia Zaccagni found a beautiful through ball to Antonin Barak who put Verona ahead.

Napoli’s players scrambled to equalize, but it was to be Zaccani, once again, coming to the forefront. In the 79th minute the wonderkid scored from inside the 6-yard-box with a great header.

While Napoli enjoyed better possession throughout the match, Gattuso’s players were unable to make their chances count. The defeat sees Juventus leapfrog the Naples side in the standings. Gli Azzuri is now in sixth place.
