No Contract? Sky Announces That Talks of a Gattuso’s Renewal With Napoli May Be Delayed

Contrary to recent information, it now looks like Gennaro Gattuso’s contract is not to be renewed in the very near future. While the young manager’s work is highly appreciated in Italy, Napoli’s recent poor results may have made the team’s officials want to delay the process.

Sky Sports made the announcement about the delay in negotiations yesterday. The network believes that it is unlikely that Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has changed his mind. However, the recent back-to-back defeats to Juventus in the Supercoppa Italia and Verona in Serie A, have hampered the mood in Naples.

Gennaro Gattuso, the former midfield legend of Squadra Azzura, signed as a manger for Napoli back in 2019. He replace Carlo Ancelotti, and against the expectations of some pundits, Gattuso was able to guide the team back to stability.

The playing style he developed for Gli Azzuri has been widely praised in the media. This is why, it was previously reported, Napoli officials are ready to offer the young manager a contract extension until 30th of June 2023. The new contract would see him earn in the region of 2.4 million Euro, before bonuses.

Sky Sports’ report states that the contract talks are not a priority for the club in light of recent results. However, it is expected that, since both sides seem happy with the negotiations, the contract should be signed momentarily.

Rai Sport’s Ciro Venerato believes much the same thing. The pundit says that rumors of a decision to replace Gattuso with Rafael Benitez are unfounded and that Napoli’s current manager is still very highly regarded by club officials.
