Premier League champions, Liverpool, may be looking to make a bid for Serbian center-back Nikola Maksimovic. The Reds have been dealing with an injury crisis that has rocked the squad.
The injury crisis has especially affected Jurgen Klopp’s defenders. Virgil van Dijk, one of the team’s best players was the first to suffer a long-time injury. Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, and Joe Gomez have all dealt with their concerns.
It is widely speculated that Liverpool have inquired about Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in the past. Seen as one of the best defenders in Europe, Koulibaly price tag has, however, discouraged possible suitors. According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, Napoli would not accept any offer below £100million.
Reporter Jim White recently claimed that Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli’s president, told him of Liverpool’s interest in Nikola Maksimovic instead.
Liverpool’s interst might also be encouraged by the defender’s contractual situation. It is widely speculated that he has not yet agreed to a new deal with Napoli. His current contract expires in the summer. Gli Azzuri may then consider selling for a fee this winter, or else risk losing him on a free.
Nikola Maksimovic has made seven appearances for Napoli in Serie A this season and started in six games in the Europa League.
