Napoli Win the Appeal to Replay Serie a Champions Juventus

Napoli has won an appeal with CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) to overturn the forfeit result suffered in the match against Juventus. The match was originally due to be played in the third week of the 2020/21 Seria A season.

However, on the 4th of October, it was decided that Napoli would not be allowed to play the Serie A champions. The reason for this was the high number of footballers who had been infected with the Covid-19 virus.

Only a few days prior, Gli Azzuri had played Genoa. Following the match, a large number of the Rossoblù players developed Covid-19 symptoms. Napoli forfeited the game with a 3-0 result and also had one point deducted from their tally.

CONI has now ruled that Napoli was not at fault. The team will get another chance of playing Juventus and will receive back the one point that had been deducted. This means that Napoli has climbed to fourth place in the league, overcoming AS Roma.

This will put Napoli in a great position ahead of their fixture against Juventus. At the moment, there are only three points between the two teams. Furthermore, Napoli trails leaders AC Milan by only seven points at the moment.
