Napoli Fall to 6th Place After Defeat to Spezia
Napoli recorded a humbling 2-1 defeat at home to Spezia. Following the result, Gennaro Gattuso’s men have falled to 8th place in the Serie A standings.
The Partenopei failed to make their chances count against Spezia, one of the lower ranked teams in Serie A.
In spite of registering 26 shots on target and scoring the first goal of the game, Napoli succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home.
Manager Gennaro Gattuso opted to stick to the same 4-2-3-1 formation that had been succesful at the weekend went they had defeated Cagliari.
This time, around, however, Piotr Zielinski and Hirving Lozano could not make their efforts count.
Meanwhile, Spezia’s aggressive pressing play proved worked in their favor in the latter stages of the game. First, M’bala Nzola converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute. Finally, Thomasso Pobega scored the winner in the 81st minute.
Napoli now falls to 6th place and lose the momentum they had acquired following their first victory of 2021. Up next is a visit to Udinese in what will, most likely, prove to be a difficult fixture.
