Napoli Draw Against Inter to Keep Title Hopes Alive

Napoli dominated their game against Serie A rival Inter. In the end, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The result leaves the Serie A title race wide open.

Napoli welcomed the visit of Inter Milan as an opportunity to avenge the recent defeat against the current Serie A champions. Inter are leaders of the championship. However, Napoli’s good run of form has left Luciano Spalletti’s side in the title race.

Spalletti opted for a 4-3-2-1 formation with Fabian Ruiz and Piotr Zilenski’s creativity being emphasized by the team’s style. Victor Osimhen’s return as the team’s main goal threat should also be noted.

Meanwhile, Inter opted for Simone Inzaghi’s favorite formation and style of play, a dynamic 3-5-2. Regardless, of their excellent squad, the team’s most creative players, Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, and Marcelo Brozovic were starved of opportunities to exhibit their skill.

Napoli opened the scoring early. Stefan de Vrij’s challenge on Osimhen was deemed worthy of a penalty sanction. Napoli captain, Lorenzo Insigne stepped up to the spot and comfortably converted it.

Napoli remained the more dangerous side. Still, in the 47th minute, striker Edin Dzeko brought Inter level after heading in a cross from Lautaro Martinez.

It ended level. It’s a score that keeps the title race alive, but also one that may help boost AC Milan’s hopes of reaching the top position should they win against Sampdoria on Sunday.
