Mario Rui and Lorenzo Insigne Feeling the Pressure of Napoli’s Inconsistent Form
Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso is not only having to contend with pressure on his job, but also with tension from his own camp. Two of the team’s most important players, Mario Rui and Lorenzo Insigne at the heart of these conflicts.
Napoli managed a 3-3 draw against Sassuolo in the last week of Serie A. While Sassuolo has, no doubt, performed above expectations this season, the result seems to have been received badly in the Naples’ side camp.
Sky Sport reports that today Gattuso removed Mario Rui from the team’s training session. It is believed that the manager opposed the player’s attitude. It is not the first time that the tactician has called Rui’s commitment into question this campaign.
Tension could also be felt against Sassuolo when captain Lorenzo Insigne reacted angrily following Gli Azzurri’s result. The cameras that picked up the reaction seem to reveal the player’s dissatisfaction with his teammates’ performances.
Club officials have defended the team’s captain, saying that the player merely reacted angrily to the final result, not the performance of his teammates.
Napoli takes on Bologna at the weekend with the team needing a win to maintain their sixth place in the standings.
