Ghoulam’s Agent Keen to Discuss Contract Renewal With Napoli’s Board
Faouzi Ghoulam has been on a good run of form lately. The players’ agent, Jorge Mendes, looks anxious to discuss a contract renewal with Napoli’s hierarchy.
Ghoulam may have become one of manager Gennaro Gattuso’s favorites of late as an emergency measure. After all, Napoli has dealt with a terrible injury crisis. However, the Algerian international has risen to the challenge and produced some fine displays.
The left-back was, perhaps, Man of the Match in Napoli’s last game, the 2-0 victory over Serie A side Benevento. The player’s passing, his tackles and, even, his two shots on goal earned him plenty of plaudits.
Encouraged by the good performance, super-agent Jorge Mendes is rumored (according to Il Mattino) to be keen on discussing the player’s future. The deal expires in 2022. Mendes would be looking for a fresh contract worth 2.4 million per season. While Ghoulam often plays in a rotation system with Mario Rui, it is easy to assume that the club would be interested in meeting the player and the agent halfway.
Faouzi Ghoulam joined Napoli back in 2014, arriving from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne. While an important player in his first seasons for the club, the left-back made only sporadic appearances in recent campaigns.
