Gattuso’s Methods Paying off? Napoli Is 11 Points Better off Than Last Season
Gennaro Gattuso has been forced to endure a lot of criticism in the past few months. However, as influential newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport notes, the manager has Napoli 11 more points than last season.
Talks of Gennaro Gattuso being replaced as manager of Napoli before the end of the Serie A season have died down, especially after Gli Azzurri’s impressive victory over AC Milan, one of the league’s finer sides.
Even though there are many who believe that Napoli has regressed during their most recent campaign, the statistics seem to say something different. The team has won 11 more points than last season, has just won at San Siro, and still has a qualification spot to the Champions League within their sights.
It is also well known that Napoli has been without some of their most important players who have been sidelined through injury. Despite this, Napoli boasts the third-best attack and third-best defense in the league.
Also, Napoli has scored fifteen more goals than they did last season at the same juncture and has managed to be scored against seven fewer times. Gattuso has managed this with a team that often did not include star players like Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly, or Victor Osimhen.
The club is yet to make an official statement about whether Gattuso will receive an extension on his contract, but the figures clearly show that the manager has already achieved something special since taking charge of the Partenopei side.
