Dries Mertens Likely to Be Fit to Play Against Sassuolo
Attacking-midfielder, Dries Mertens, returned to the field against Benevento and scored a vital first goal for Napoli. In spite of a recent ankle injury, the Belgium is expected to play a part in Napoli’s next game.
It has been a difficult season for Mertens and for Napoli having to play without the talented trequartista. The player has been forced to miss most of the team’s matches since December.
His ankle issues may have been a problem, but the team’s medics are prepared to give Mertens the attention he needs. Immediately following the game against Benevento, the player was given ice protection around his ankles as a precautionary measure.
This seems to have worked and it is expected that Dries Mertens could start the match against Sassuolo. Since joining Napoli in 2013, the Belgium player has proven an integral part of the club. This was also evident in the match against Benevento where the player’s vision, attacking flair and defensive contributions were vital in ensuring the team won all three points.
It is rumored that he has also rejected several big-money moves. The midfielder has played in 250 games for Napoli and has scored 98 goals so far. Certainly, a Naples side featuring Mertens is a stronger team.
