De Laurentiis Congratulates Napoli Players Following Victory Against Benevento
Napoli secured three important points in the Serie A against Benevento last night. The Partenopei side won 2-0. Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke to the players at halftime and congratulated them after the match.
It looks like some of the dark clouds surrounding Napoli have been blown away by the team’s recent victory against The Stregoni. The Naples side had been on a poor run of form that saw them get knocked out of both Coppa Italia and the Europa League.
Goals from Dries Mertens, returning from an ankle injury, and Matteo Politano were enough to give Napoli a comfortable victory against Filippo Inzaghi’s side. The three points see Gli Azzurri climb to 6th place in the Serie A standings with one game in hand over most of their opponents.
Del Mattino reports that club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis decided to speak to the team at half-time. Later, he congratulated the players for their victory. This is viewed as a step forward in relations between the players and the owner who in recent weeks is said to have been upset by the team’s poor results.
Repubblica also notes how De Laurentiis seemed rejuvenated by the team’s victory and the manner in which the players performed. The three points could turn out to be especially important in Gennaro Gattuso’s future at the club, with the manager has been under considerable pressure following poor recent results.
