Could Alex Meret Leave Napoli for Fiorentina?

Alex Meret has found it hard to earn a starting position for Napoli this season. It is now been reported that Fiorentina is looking to launch a bid for the goalkeeper.

Alex Meret could depart Napoli at the end of the 2021/22 season in order to replace Bartlomiej Dragowski as the goalkeeper for Fiorentina.

The Partenopei’s second-choice goalkeeper is currently Meret. The Italian dealt with injury concerns throughout last season. David Ospina, the Colombian international, has become the first choice in the meantime due to his fine form.

Meanwhile, Dragowski is once again the starting choice for Fiorentina. The Polish keeper has also had to deal with injury concerns. Reports, however, claim that manager Vincenzo Italiano prefers Pietro Terracciano to Dragowski in the long term. If this is true, the Polish goalkeeper may opt to leave before the season is done.

Meret is contracted to Napoli until June 2023. However, he is not likely to sign an extension with the Partenopei at this stage. Meret’s transfer would also come at a reasonable price to the Viola as he will be in his final year of the contract.

Since joining Napoli from Udinese, Meret has played 88 matches in all competitions. Meanwhile, Dragowski has played 83 games in all competitions. He joined Fiorentina back in 2016 and has also played on loan at Empoli for the second half 2018/19 season.
