Are Napoli Scouting Bednarek and Salisu?
Napoli’s challenges in their bid to secure the Serie A title have revealed the need to upgrade the squad in certain areas. Jan Bednarek and Mohammed Salisu have been scouted, according to Italian media, as future transfer targets.
Reports coming from Italy are claiming that Napoli is interested in Southampton defenders Jan Bednarek and Mohammed Salisu.
Corriere di Sport published the report. In this, it is stated that Napoli has identified several defensive targets ahead of the summer’s transfer window. Salisu (22 years old) and Bednarek (25 years) are among those most closely watched by club’s transfer department.
Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Saints’ manager, has opted for the pair as center-back pairing throughout much of the season. Salisu has been particularly impressive after a slow start to his career in the Premier League. He currently ranks among the top 10 EPL players for tackles and clearances.
Salisu arrived from La Liga’s Real Valladolid for just over 10 million Euro in August 2020. His value has risen steadily since.
Polish international Jan Bednarek is currently under contract at St Mary’s until 2025. Salisu’s contract expires one year earlier.
Napoli has already loaned Manchester United’s defender Axel Tuanzebe to Napoli for the rest of the season. However, Corriere di Sport’s report states that the Italians are unlikely to exercise their option for a full transfer.
Napoli is currently third in the Serie A with three points behind league leaders AC Milan. There are 10 matches left, and Gli Azzuri is hoping for a late-season comeback that could allow them to clinch the Scudetto.
